THE SOUND OF A CAJUN FIDDLE
in a cypress grove at the edge of the great swamp. The chank-a-chank of an accordion and the shuffle of feet on a dance floor on a warm night.
These are the sights and sounds that captivated us when we first visited southwest Louisiana. It is a culture so different from ours; it seems almost everyone plays an instrument, if only to bang on an iron triangle or rattle some spoons.
We bring that feel to our dances in the Seattle area, where a city-dweller can experience the community of dance, where listeners can transport to the farm and bayou area roadhouse.
SWAMP SOUL PERFORMS DANCE MUSIC
from Southwest Louisiana, a mixture of French, blues, and zydeco music that still moves dancers around the world. The core musicians have travelled extensively in Louisiana, learning tunes and style from Louisiana musicians. The accordionist and fiddler have performed this music for 20 years in this area, and are backed up by experienced guitarists and percussionists to create a dance groove that excites the feet and invites friendship.
LISTENERS AND DANCERS
can join us on the dance floor at our monthly dance at the Highliner pub or find us at other venues in the Puget Sound area, such as music festivals, farmer's markets, mall dance venues, and private events, such as graduation parties, weddings, and bar mitzvahs.
OUR CD,
$15 at our performance and $17 by mail, recreates the music of historic and modern day Louisiana - the family party, the dinner-dancehall, and the music festival sound that is still part of Cajun/Creole culture. Buy our CD, with beautiful photos from Lousiana, and experience the Cajun country.
